Many hospitals and doctor surgeries are still relying on paper records according to the Health Information and Quality Authority.
It says healthcare in Ireland will remain inefficient and ineffective without urgent reform of how data is stored and shared.

An entity also needs to be established to provide strategic leadership and governance for health information. This needs to be adequately funded and resourced, and underpinned by legislation.
