While specific uses for the refurbished cottages have not yet been confirmed, Labour Cllr Aoife Breslin said she hopes they can be used to house older people.
Kildare County Council has provided an update on its plans for the refurbishment and remedial works on housing units along Canal Side, Athy.
The project focuses on revitalising the historic cottages located near the canal.
A number of properties in the area have already been acquired by the council, with the aim of preserving and repurposing the buildings.

While specific uses for the refurbished cottages have not yet been confirmed, Labour Cllr Aoife Breslin said she hopes they can be used to house older people.
She said they are in a great location, close to amenities.
To guide the sensitive restoration, a conservation architect will be appointed during this quarter.
