Housing Minister Rejects Special Rent Protections For Students As Unworkable

James Browne says he'll engage with Kildare North TD Higher Education Minister James Lawless, who says college-goers will be "inadvertently disadvantaged" by the new regulations.

The Housing Minister says special rent protection measures for students are unworkable and unenforceable.

Under new Government plans, every time a student starts a new tenancy, they could be subject to the market rental rate, instead of the RPZ increase of 2 per cent.

James Browne says he'll engage with Kildare North TD Higher Education Minister James Lawless, who says college-goers will be "inadvertently disadvantaged" by the new regulations.

Chris Clifford is the President of Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn, which was formerly known as the USI.

He says the measures will put college out of reach for many young people.
