Independent Oversight Introduced In Defence Forces Complaints Process

The new system is being piloted following a recommendation from an Independent Review Group.

Members of the Defence Forces will now be able to make complaints to an independent body, outside their chain of command.

The new system is being piloted following a recommendation from an Independent Review Group.

It will deal with complaints of an "interpersonal nature" and is being established for an initial period of 12 months.

It was one of the recommendations of the Independent Review Group, set up in 2022 to examine Defence Force procedures around bullying and sexual misconduct.

Senator and former Army Officer Tom Clonan says it’s a welcome step in the reform of the Defence Forces.
