Minimum unit pricing will come into effect in January 2022
Alcohol in the Republic will cost 40 percent more than the North following the introduction of minimum unit pricing.
That's according to the Naas based Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association, which says it will fuel cross border shopping.
Minimum unit pricing will come into effect in January 2022 after the Cabinet signed off on the measure yesterday.
It means a bottle of wine will have to cost at least 7 euro and 40 cent, while a bottle of spirits cannot be sold for under 20 euro.
