Kildare Wildlife Rescue Praised In Seanad As Admitted Animal Numbers Rise

In 2025, they received around 13,000 reports of wildlife in distress.

Kildare Wildlife Rescue has been praised in the Seanad for it's work as the number of animals admitted to it's service continues to rise.

In 2025, they received around 13,000 reports of wildlife in distress.

5,027 animals were admitted, a 26 per cent rise on the previous year.

By 4 August this year, they had already surpassed that figure.

They also run Ireland’s only oiled‑wildlife treatment facility and Ireland’s only full‑time wildlife vet.

Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O' Loughlin took the opportunity to praise the service while in the Seanad earlier this week, describing the staff as "remarkable" following a recent visit.

She also raised concerns about the number of animals admitted due to "everyday human activity".

According to her, these included road collisions, litter, netting, pollution, uncovered drains, habitat destruction, poisoning, snaring and attacks by domestic pets.
