Kildare's Social Housing Strain Highlights National Crisis

The national figure includes more than 92 thousand children.

Over 235 thousand people are urgently waiting for a home.

Kildare has highest share of households on the main social housing lists, at 66% of their total ongoing need.

The term quantifies the number of households that are on the main social housing waiting list plus those households in receipt of the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP).

In Kildare, the figure stands at 10,680.

The national figure includes more than 92 thousand children.

The Social Democrats are urging the government to increase the number of social houses by 56 per cent, in order to meet the urgent need.
