Sandra Barry, of Tor an Rí, Balgaddy, Lucan, was granted bail today ahead of her next court appearance on the eighteenth of December.

A 40-year-old Lucan woman has appeared in court, charged with sending threatening online messages to Simon Harris.

Sandra Barry, of Tor an Rí, Balgaddy, Lucan, was granted bail today ahead of her next court appearance on the eighteenth of December.

She is accused of sending a threatening or grossly offensive online communication to the Tánaiste Simon Harris from her home on the 30th of August.

She made no reply to the charge when it was formally put to her this morning.

The court heard she was identified as a suspect through social media.

Judge Michelle Finan was told there were two threatening messages sent to Mr Harris on the same evening, but that more were found following a deeper analysis – six messages in total were found by the investigation team, none of which were read out in full today.

The court was simply told they were of a threatening nature, implying violence to Mr Harris and his family.

Det Garda Richard Markey said that one of them was along the lines of, “wouldn’t it be terrible if something happened to your family, like what happened in an incident involving a minor who was attacked.”

There was no objection to bail today.

At our next court appearance, Ms Barry will be given an opportunity to enter a plea or seek a hearing date.
