The works could cost in the region of €5 million
Redevelopment works for Harbour Field in Maynooth could cost in the region of €5 million.
That's according to Fine Gael Councillor for Clane-Maynooth MD Tim Durkan.
It comes as €4.4 million was allocated for the regeneration of Harbour Field in Maynooth, as part of a €15 million investment into Kildare refurbishment projects last month.
Works intend to make the area a more "open and usable" public space, while also "opening up the canal" for it to become more attractive to local people as well.
A new gym was also mentioned among the plans, as well as a new lawn area.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Durkan hoped for "diggers to be on site" in the next 12 months:
"We've funding in principle, we've a few more steps to go through, then we can go out to tender for the redevelopment side of it, so I would hope that in the next 12 months that we'd have diggers on site.
"We had numerous applications in for funding, finally the application was successful [recently]."
While speaking on the matter during a recent MD meeting, Kildare County Council noted that "match funding" for the Harbour Field to progress
with the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund (TCRIF) funding will come from development contributions.
It added that the progression of the project to this current stage, detailed design, was financially assisted by the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund and Local Property Tax.
