After confirmed cases in Carlow and Cork, the Department of Agriculture is imposing a mandatory order for all poultry and captive birds to be kept indoors from next Monday.

Poultry farmers are on alert after another confirmed case of bird flu.

It was detected in a commercial turkey flock near Kells in Co. Meath.

It's now the subject of an exclusion zone.

After confirmed cases in Carlow and Cork, the Department of Agriculture is imposing a mandatory order for all poultry and captive birds to be kept indoors from next Monday.

Minister for Agriculture and Kildare South TD Martin Heydon says the turkey and chicken should still be safe to eat.
