Naas General Hospital has a hospital-acquired infection prevalence rate of 12.4%, placing it among the top five hospitals in the country for infection rates.
Bantry Hospital in Cork recorded the highest infection rate at 26.1%. Roscommon Hospital followed at 21%.
Though Kilcreene Orthopaedic Hospital in Kilkenny (13%) and Croom Orthopaedic Hospital in Limerick (12.5%) reported slightly higher rates, Naas General's infection prevalence is still above other notable hospitals, including Portiuncula University Hospital in Galway (12.3%) and Cork University Hospital (12%).
According to the Irish Independent, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre’s report, which covers all acute hospitals nationwide, found that overall 932 patients were affected by healthcare-acquired infections, with a national average rate of 7.4%.
