In April 2024, Assistant Principal Brian Corkery spoke to Kfm out about the situation, highlighting overcrowding, limited toilet access, and the lack of basic facilities like a PE hall.
After years of delays and frustration, Mercy Convent Primary School pupils in Naas are finally set to move into a new school building on September 2.
The announcement comes more than a year after school management raised concerns over cramped and inadequate conditions.
In April 2024, Assistant Principal Brian Corkery spoke to Kfm out about the situation, highlighting overcrowding, limited toilet access, and the lack of basic facilities like a PE hall.
At the time, 60 pupils were sharing just three toilets.
The staff room doubled as a utility space.
Some pupils completed their entire primary education in temporary modular units that were originally intended to be in use for just 15 months.
The long-awaited move marks a major milestone after delays in issuing a letter of intent to begin construction, originally expected in October 2023.
The new school building is expected to include space for 200 additional pupils.
