Martin John McCauley (62) appeared before the court on Thursday afternoon
A man, with an address in Naas, has been charged with the murder of three police officers in an IRA bombing in Northern Ireland in 1982.
According to RTE, Martin John McCauley, 62, from Esmondale in Naas appeared at Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Thursday afternoon.
Mr. McCauley faces charges for the murders of Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) Sergeant Sean Quinn and constables Allan McCloy and Paul Hamilton, who were killed in a landmine attack at Kinnego Embankment near Lurgan on 27 October 1982.
He confirmed his understanding by answering "yes" when the charges were read to him.
A prosecution lawyer stated that forensic evidence found on cigarette butts was central to the case against Mr. McCauley.
The court was informed that Mr. McCauley, originally from the Lurgan area, was arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) after the completion of extradition proceedings.
He was first arrested by gardaí in August 2024 and had been released on bail following a High Court appearance in Dublin for the extradition process.
District Judge Philip McAteer ruled that Mr. McCauley could be granted bail upon providing a £100,000 surety.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on 26 February.
