Garda staffing figures have revealed the number of frontline Gardaí in stations across the country
The report outlines that there are almost 600 fewer frontline Gardaí than there were six years ago, and a record number of stations have no dedicated Garda assigned to them.
According to the Irish Independent, the number of frontline Gardaí based in stations around the country has fallen from 12,373 in 2020 to 11,789 in December – a drop of 584.
As well as this, 228 stations now have fewer Gardaí than in 2020.
In Kildare, Naas Garda station showed an increase of 49 members in comparison to 10 years ago, bringing their total to 149, one of the countries largest.
Even though Leixlip had a decrease of nine from last year, they now have 22 more frontline staff than 10 years ago.
Several large stations have had a sharp drop in garda numbers since 2020, including Mountjoy, Dublin (-59); Waterford (-48); Mullingar, Co Westmeath (-31); Thurles, Co Tipperary (-24); Salthill, Co Galway (-21); Dundalk, Co Louth (-19); and Cahir, Co Tipperary (-18).
Last year, the number of Garda stations with no dedicated Garda rose to a record high of 63, up from 56 in 2024.
These vacant stations, which are mostly in rural areas, account for 11pc of the national network of 564 stations.
