Solid fuels are a big contributing factor.
On the 15th February of February last week Naas had the worst air quality in Ireland, according to to the EPA.
Solid fuels, road traffic and agriculture are all causes of air pollution.
Dr. Colm Byrne has said throughout the winter particularly in December and January air pollution in Naas was extremely poor.
"Burning anything in your home causes air pollution," he said.
"We found an association between stroke in winter and times when air pollution was high.
"The health affects are here in Ireland.
"It's a serious issue that we need to address not just for climate change but for our own health.
"The dust thrown up by road works and building works contributes to air pollution, but usually it is solid fuel," he added.
