Student Universal Support Ireland or SUSI provides funding to third-level students to support their studies at approved institutions.
Almost 3,800 students from Kildare have been approved for student grant support under the SUSI scheme for the 2024/25 academic year, new figures show.
According to data from Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), 3,776 applicants from Kildare were awarded funding to support their studies at approved institutions. The county ranks among the higher recipients nationally, reflecting significant local engagement with the scheme.
The Student Grant Scheme, administered by SUSI, provides financial assistance to eligible students attending approved full-time or part-time courses, subject to criteria such as means, residency, nationality, and previous academic achievement.
The 2024/25 academic year also saw the rollout of a new Part-Time Fee Scheme for specified undergraduate courses. This initiative supports eligible part-time students — including those enrolled in blended or hybrid learning programmes — particularly targeting those from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Nationwide, a total of 80,237 students across the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland have so far been approved for grant support. Dublin recorded the highest number of awards at 16,833, followed by Cork with 8,486. Kildare placed seventh overall in terms of successful applicants.
Figures may continue to rise as SUSI is still processing applications for the current academic year.
The SUSI scheme remains a vital resource for thousands of students each year, offering support that helps ease the financial burden of third-level education.
