The Government says its new housing plan for the next five years is ambitious but realistic.
It’s promising to deliver 300,000 homes including 72,000 social homes by 2030.
The document, called ‘Delivering Homes, Building Communities, spans 106 pages.
It pledges to deliver 300,000 homes by 2030 which includes 72,000 social homes and 90 thousand starter homes.
To support delivery, 24 billion euro will be invested in key transport programmes, 12 billion will be allocated for the water sector and 3 billion for energy projects.
The Government also aims to bring 20,000 derelict homes back into use through grants.
While There will also be an Action Plan to deliver more suitable homes for older people called rightsizing.
The Coalition launched the document at a Land Development Agency site in Dublin 8 with the LDA set to receive 2.5 billion euro as part of the plan.
But what’s not in the document is yearly measurable targets for the delivery of homes.
Taoiseach Michael Martin has defended this.
Housing Minister James Browne believes the plan is ambitious but realistic.
While Tanaiste Simon Harris described housing as a national emergency saying it’s not about money but about speeding up delivery and removing blockages in the system.
