According to Ó Cearúil, one of the recent accidents involved a mother carrying two young children who tripped on a loose slab, resulting in a fall that required an ambulance call.
A local councillor is calling for immediate action to address deteriorating footpaths along the Main Street in Maynooth, citing multiple recent falls.
Cllr Naoise Ó Cearúil said Kildare County Council should use excess funds generated from paid parking in the area to fix the paths.
The funds can only be spent in the town centre.
The issue of uneven and broken paving slabs along the town's busiest street has led to several serious incidents.
According to Ó Cearúil, one of the recent accidents involved a mother carrying two young children who tripped on a loose slab, resulting in a fall that required an ambulance call.
Another accident saw an elderly resident suffer a serious injury, while a third case involved a shopkeeper who sustained a severe fall.
All three incidents occurred within the past two months.
“This is our main thoroughfare. It’s where we see the most foot traffic, and it's simply not safe at the moment. With funds retained from paid parking that can only be used within the town center, it’s time to prioritise these repairs."
The council has begun assembling a team to assess and cost out the project, which would involve resurfacing the affected areas to enhance pedestrian safety.
In addition, they are planning upgrades to Mill Street, a nearby road that intersects with Main Street.
"My hope is that they'll be able to carry out works on Main Street at the time same," Ó Cearúil said.
