It's understood members of Fianna Fáil's Parliamentary Party are being asked to back Independent TD Verona Murphy for the position

The Outgoing Ceann Comhairle says he will not withdraw from contention to become the new Ceann Comhairle.

Sean Ó Fearghaíl says the position, or that of Leas Ceann Comhairle, shouldn't be used for bartering in Government formation discussions.

It's understood members of Fianna Fáil's Parliamentary Party are being asked to back Independent TD Verona Murphy for the position.

Sean O Fearghail says the decision is contrary of the reforms which have been put in place:
