Second Reported Dog Attack In Same Leixlip Area In Under A Month, With Dogs And Owner Injured

The injured dogs required surgery for severe puncture wounds and are now in recovery.

A dog owner has advised locals to be cautious at the dam and waterworks area in Leixlip after an alleged violent dog attack on Thursday near the Salmon Leap Pub.

Kfm understands that two dogs were mauled by three German Shepherd-type dogs, whose owner lost control and is understood to have dropped their leads.

The injured dogs required surgery for severe puncture wounds and are now in recovery.

A person who intervened also sustained injuries.

This follows a similar incident on May 10th, when a woman suffered a serious arm injury near the water treatment plant after being bitten by one of three large unmuzzled dogs.

These incidents are generally dealt with by a dog warden.

There are just two dog wardens covering the entire county, with Kildare County Council telling Kfm recently that it has no immediate plans to increase its dog warden team.

Cork, which has a slightly larger population than Kildare, has five full time dog wardens.
