The Social Democrats want Kildare County Council and other local authorities to increase the number of houses they buy from private landlords - to help tenants on state supports.
There are also calls for other schemes to be expanded and updated to help with the accommodation squeeze.
It follows revelations that 4,741 eviction notices were served on tenants between October and December last year - which will fall due when the eviction ban ends on April 1st.
