Tuesday, 23 December 2025 16:22

By Martin Osborne - Head Of News

Of the new zones in Kildare, six have been added following community requests, where residents and local Gardaí raised concerns about speeding on particular roads.

Kildare is among the counties set to see an expansion of speed enforcement in the new year, with 21 new safety camera zones coming into operation from January 1st, 2026.

The rollout forms part of a nationwide expansion by An Garda Síochána, which will see 390 new safety camera zones added across the State - bringing the total to 1,901 locations.

Of the new zones in Kildare, six have been added following community requests, where residents and local Gardaí raised concerns about speeding on particular roads.

The locations have yet to be revealed.

Gardaí say the cameras are targeted at areas with a history of speed-related collisions - including school safety zones, rural roads and other high-risk locations - with the aim of reducing serious injuries and saving lives.

So far this year, 186 people have been killed on Irish roads, the highest number in over a decade.

GoSafe is also set to get key performance indicators to ensure enforcement is targeted at key days and times.

Members of the public who have concerns in relation to speeding in their area have also been asked to make contact with their local Garda Station.
