The Department of Education has confirmed that St Wolstan's Community School in Celbridge has received project approval to build an extension.
The extension will consist of 9 mainstream classrooms, 2 special education classrooms, 4 support classrooms as well as art, music, science and technology rooms.
The news has been welcomed by Fianna Fail TD for Kildare North James Lawless.
The all-girls school, based on the Shackleton Road in Celbridge, currently has approximately 750 students.
