The funding will be for a specialised workshop at the Defence Forces Training Centre in the Curragh Camp
The Tánaiste and Minister for Defence, Micheál Martin, has announced today the allocation of €8.6 million for a new Communications and Information Services (CIS) Workshop at the Defence Forces Training Centre in the Curragh Camp.
This initiative is part of the Defence Forces Infrastructure Development Plan (IDP).
In his announcement, the Tánaiste stated: "Since I became Minister for Defence, my priority has been the transformation and modernisation of the Defence Forces. Enhancing the quality of Defence Forces infrastructure and facilities is a crucial element of this change.
"This project will provide a cutting-edge facility enabling our troops to maintain essential communications equipment used by personnel and larger vehicle-based systems."
The new CIS workshop will accommodate large vehicle-based systems such as the 18-tonne MOWAG armoured personnel carriers, as well as the next generation of armoured personnel carriers, which will be wider, taller, and weigh between 25 and 30 tonnes.
Additionally, the facility will include space for equipment storage and staff amenities, including a dining area, locker rooms, showers, and toilet facilities.
