People in Kildare and around Ireland to be aware not to believe everything you see on social media

The level of misinformation circulating on social media is once again being highlighted as a major threat to Irish society.

Rumours spread quickly online during the week that a foreign national - allegedly armed with a knife - attacked school students, prompting Gardaí to issue a statement refuting the claims.

Fine Gael MEP for Dublin Frances Fitzgerald says Ireland is no exception to "urban rumour".
