The Transport Minister says he believes Irish people "are ready" to do away with a "car-dominated" system.
Eamon Ryan says College Green in Dublin will not be the only place where road space is re-allocated, to better fit active travel.
He's asking local authorities, including Kildare County Council, to pitch projects for their areas to help lower emissions and also reduce congestion.
Minister Ryan says work is under way to give more sustainable transport modes extra space:
