Respect Vapers says its estimates suggest 2,447 adults in the county could resume smoking if a proposed flavour ban is introduced.
A vaping advocacy group has claimed proposed restrictions on flavoured vapes could result in more than 2,400 former smokes in Kildare returning to cigarettes.
Respect Vapers says its estimates suggest 2,447 adults in the county could resume smoking if a proposed flavour ban is introduced.
Nationally, the group puts the figure at up to 60,000.
The organisation is also opposing increased taxation on vaping products, arguing that a combination of higher prices and restrictions on flavours could push some users towards cigarettes or unregulated products.
The government has proposed tighter controls on vaping as part of efforts to reduce its use, particularly among young people.
Respect Vapers argues that vaping is also used by adults as an alternative to smoking and says any new measures should take account of their potential impact on people who have already stopped smoking.
The Kildare figure is an estimate provided by the advocacy group rather than a recorded number of people who have returned to smoking.
