The shopping centre in Dublin is one of the biggest retail hubs in Ireland,and has started to charge for parking from today.
It will cost €2.50 for the first hour for customers, with the next two free. While staff will have to pay €2.50 per trip.
It led to a protest outside yesterday, with workers saying they will be forced to pay up to €600 a year.
The shopping centre says the changes are to encourage people to use public transportation.
However, workers note that the shopping centre that straddles two motorways, isn't serviced by tram or rail and would require most people to get two buses.
In a statement, management says €30 million is being invested to enhance parking and public transport facilities at the centre and that heavily discounted parking rates are being provided for staff.
A major refurbishment of the car park and surrounding areas is being carried out, which the operators say will make it easier, safer and less stressful to park at the centre as customer numbers increase.
As part of the project, a six-bay bus interchange is being built in the car park under BusConnects that will open next year. New lighting, walkways, and cycle lanes are also being installed.
