Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the M9 in south Kildare after a car travelling the wrong way on the motorway was involved in a head-on crash in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The collision happened at around 3am on the northbound carriageway between Junctions 3 and 4 near Moone and Castledermot.
Gardaí have confirmed that a number of people died in the crash.
Four occupants of the second vehicle, two women in their 30s, a woman in her 20s and a child, were taken to hospital, with the adults and child receiving treatment for critical and serious injuries.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was travelling on the M9 between 2am and 3am and may have dashcam footage, to contact Athy Garda Station.
Investigations are ongoing with the road to remain closed until at least 4pm, possibly longer.
