An elderly woman has been seriously injured after being attacked at a house in Dundalk, County Louth this afternoon.
It's understood the woman, who is in her 80s, was attacked with a hatchet shortly before 1 o'clock.
Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene in Glenwood and she was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Two other women, who were in the house at the time, were also injured in the attack.
They are being treated at Louth County Hospital in the town.
A man was arrested at the scene and is currently being questioned at a Garda station in Louth.
