The woman was attacked in broad daylight on a busy city centre street.
A man has been charged after a tourist was assaulted in Dublin on Friday morning.
Kevin Kletzander, aged 33, with an address at a Dublin 8 hostel, has been charged with assault causing harm after punching a female tourist in the face - just hours after she arrived in Ireland.
The unprovoked attack happened in broad daylight on Dame Street at 11:30am last Friday.
Gardaí say the victim was left bleeding on the ground, with a deep cut to her temple, severe bruising, and fears of permanent scarring.
Despite crowds nearby, the attacker allegedly showed no hesitation, and calmly walked away toward George’s Street afterwards.
Gardaí believe the assault was gender-targeted, and told the court they have “huge safety concerns” for any woman the accused might encounter.
Mr. Kletzander later handed himself in, admitted to the attack, and said “I’m sorry” when officially charged.
Judge Catherine Ghent refused bail, citing the seriousness of the incident.
The accused is due back in court on May 29th.
