The incident happened at around 6:30pm last night.
The N80 in Rathcrogue, County Carlow remains closed this afternoon following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
At around half six yesterday evening, a woman in her 70s died when she was hit by a car near Tinryland GAA Club.
Her body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post mortem examination.
The driver of the car - a man in his 20s - was uninjured.
