The Foreign Affairs Minister says she wants the entirety of the European Union to adopt the restrictions set out in the Occupied Territories Bill
The cabinet is being briefed this morning on the Occupied Territories Bill
The government's version of the bill, which proposes banning the trade of goods with illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine, has been brought forward to Cabinet this morning.
Following approval today, it's understood Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee wants the bill passed in the Dáil before the summer recess.
It's a significant step, but opposition parties are calling for the government to go further and include a ban on services.
The coalition has been ruling this out, with the Taoiseach saying last week it's not viable and its legally complicated.
Helen McEntee says other countries should follow suit while Tánaiste Simon Harris says today’s step needs to be seen in the wider context.
