Further talks are to take place in the next fortnight
General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Owen Reidy says representatives will meet with Government officials again in the next fortnight.
Mr Reidy was critical of the Government before today's meeting, claiming that Government had taken "industrial peace" for granted and that if workers other than farmers or hauliers had blockaded key infrastuructre that they would have been arrested.
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions, SIPTU, Forsa and the INMO were among those meeting with Cabinet Ministers to discuss the impact of the cost of living crisis on workers.
Following the meeting, Mr Reidy says Cabinet Ministers were "reflective" when hearing them out today:
"We were quite frank and straight-forward and robust, as our members would expect us to be."
"The government were in listening mode, as well as listening they heard and heeded what we had to say."
INMO General Secretary Phil Ni Sheaghdha, says the Government needed to look after workers, and that strike action was still on the table:
"We made the point, I think we were heard, they know the time-frame and they know the reaction if the answer isn't what we're looking for."
