The new system officially comes into effect today.

Gardaí can now check a driver's insurance status by scanning their vehicle's registration plate.

The new system officially comes into effect today for more than 13 thousand gardaí nationwide, through the Garda Mobility App.

Research from the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland shows we rank among the highest in Europe for uninsured driving.

CEO of the MIBI, David Fitzgerald, says Gardaí have had a positive experience with the system since it was first introduced at the start of the year.
