The Government expects the bill to the exchequer for compensation to Mother and Baby Homes survivors to reach over €1.5 billion.

According to the Mail on Sunday, there's little confidence that Churches will contribute significantly based on previous redress schemes.

Just 200 million of the €1.5 billion expected from the Catholic Church has been paid so far.

Sources have told the paper that the 1.5 billion euro bill to the taxpayer is a 'conservative estimate,' of what will be required.
