Covid-19 certificate and photo id will be required

Guidelines for the re-opening of hospitality have been published.

Under the Failte Ireland draft guidelines anyone intending to sit inside will have to prove their immunity from coronavirus with their official Covid-19 certificate and photo id.

Names and contact details will also be taken from all adult guests for contact tracing purposes.

Under 18s who are accompanied by a parent/guardian won't need proof of immunity, but kids may be asked for photo ID to prove that they are under 18.

There will be no counter service and all customers will have to wear face coverings if they leave their table to move around the premises.

Tables will be restricted to parties of 6 with a distance of 2 metres between them and 1 metre between people seated at the tables.

Closing time will be 11.30pm but there will be no time limit on visits.

It's expected the guidelines will be signed off by government tomorrow.

Padraig Cribben, Chief Executive of the Vinteners Federation, says the new rules are going to be difficult, but they have no choice.
