Former Kildare South TD and ex-member of the Defence Forces Cathal Berry welcomes the move
Ireland is set to strengthen its security by joining an alliance of European nations that shares intelligence on potential threats in EU waters.
The Government has given approval for the Defence Forces to formally join the Common Information Sharing Environment.
The alliance is made up of ten other EU countries, including Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Finland and Portugal.
Former Kildare South TD and ex-member of the Defence Forces Cathal Berry, says this will enable different authorities including coast guards, naval services and customs to communicate across Europe:
