The former St Paul’s Secondary School site on Main Street in Monasterevin has been sold, with plans now emerging for a new supermarket development.
The long-vacant school building has been purchased by Lidl Ireland, which is expected to seek planning permission for a new store on the site.

Cllr Kevin Duffy (FG) said: "A development of this scale has the potential to greatly enhance activity along Main Street, complementing existing local businesses and strengthening the services available to our growing population."
He explained how "numerous efforts were made to identify a suitable new use for the site" - ranging from educational, special education and health-related facilities - but those proposals did not progress.
