A private prosecutor hired by Kirsty Ward's family is arguing for a 30-year sentence in prison.
A former Irish soldier has been convicted of murdering his Dublin girlfriend at a Spanish hotel.
34-year-old Keith Byrne faces three-decades behind bars after a jury convicted him of strangling Kirsty Ward to death with a hair straightener power cord after she told him she was leaving him.
Keith Byrne - who had been living in Duleek in Meath - claimed during the trial in Spain that 36-year-old mother of one Kirsty Ward had died by suicide at their hotel in Salou.
The public prosecutor has asked the judge to jail Keith Byrne for 20 years - lowering an initial pre-trial demand by a year as he had accepted Byrne's use of drink and drugs as a mitigating factor.
However, a private prosecutor hired by Kirsty's family is arguing for a 30-year sentence in prison.
The trial heard from a domestic violence specialist who believed Byrne decided that Kirsty Ward was his or nobody's - and strangled her when she said she wanted out of the relationship.
It was also told the amount of alcohol Kirsty had consumed would've impacted her ability to defend herself.
Mr Byrne is due to be sentenced in the next month.
In a statement, Kirsty Ward's family said they are grateful to the jury for believing the truth about her, and asked for privacy while they come to terms with what has happened during the last two years.
