New Paediatric Unit Opens At Tallaght Hospital

Paediatric, outpatient & emergency care unit

A new three-story paediatric outpatient and emergency care unit has opened at Tallaght Hospital today.

It comes as the three children's hospitals are curtailing services for the third week in a row, due to a surge in respiratory and winter illnesses.

The unit will provide 24-hour emergency care, and has 2 triage rooms and 16 single examination rooms.

It also contains a Medical Forensic Examination suite and clinic for Child Sexual Assault Counselling and Therapy services.

The Irish Independent reports the new unit is one of two satellite centres, part of the €1.4 billion new National Children's Hospital, which will be completed in 2024.

When fully operational the Tallaght unit is expected to provide 17,000 extra outpatient slots, and cater to more than 30,000 emergency care presentations a year.
