Optometrists are urging the public not to use cosmetic contact lenses this Halloween.

The eye experts warn that sight loss and blindness is just some of the damage that could be caused by illegal and unregulated contact lenses.

Some of the colours and materials used in novelty contacts could make them more difficult to sterilise which increases the chance of infection.

Liz Grennan from Optometry Ireland says cosmetic contacts may not complete the look you're going for:
