The young man, named locally as Ryan, is understood to have been out socialising with a group of males.
Kildare Town has been rocked by the death of a young man, who died yesterday at Naas General Hospital after he was seriously assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The young man, named locally as Ryan Gibbons, is understood to have been out socialising with a group of males.
It is understood that an altercation occurred on a bus before later unfolding at Magee Terrace, next to the Garda Station.
The man was found lying on the ground and Kfm understands that he suffered severe head injuries.
His condition deteriorated and he passed away yesterday.
Locals have said Ryan was a "gentle soul" with "big friendly smile", while another individual described him as a "true gentleman".
Another person who knew Ryan said he was the "smiliest nicest boy" and that she "never seen him not laughing or smiling".
Gardai are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
They are asking anyone who was in the Magee Terrace area of Kildare Town between 2am and 4am on Sunday to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kildare Garda Station on 045 527730, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
Speaking to Kfm, Garda Sean O'Mahoney made this appeal.
