The Irish Prison Service's latest figures show 3,109 people are in custody, after being sentenced by the courts.
424 are in jail for sex offences.
Noeline Blackwell, from Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, says that's a low number compared to the number of offences.
Rape survivor Debbie Cole is calling for minimum jail sentences for sex crimes.
