An addiction counsellor has said cocaine has infiltrated every facet of society
One in two adults under the age of 35 have tried cocaine, according to a poll conducted days after the dramatic €157m seizure of the drug brought new focus on its use.
Younger adults were far more likely to be users of the drug, with 43pc of those polled saying they had tried it — and a further 6pc of under-35s admitted to using cocaine regularly, while 2pc preferred not to reveal if had used it, the Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks poll found.
Of those aged 55 or older, 96pc said they had never tried cocaine, while 19pc of those in the 35-44 cohort admitted to trying cocaine, with a further 4pc using it on a regular basis.
Addiction Counsellor Michael Guerin, cocaine is ad widespread and commonplace in rural areas as it is in urban areas.
