The director's job at the National Cyber Security Centre will be re-advertised on Friday - with an increased salary of €184,000.
Junior Communications Minister, Ossian Smyth, will tell an Oireachtas committee today the competition should be finished by the end of the year.
He says an appointment will be made 'as early as possible' after that.
The vacancy was strongly criticised during the ransomware attack on the HSE, and cyber-security expert Brian Honan hopes it will be filled this time.

The government's also creating 20 additional jobs in the centre - with recruitment starting in the coming weeks.
