The Ramelton Road in Letterkenny remains closed for a forensic exam after the collision just before midnight.
The front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the drivers of both cars were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
