O'Malley started his political career as a Fianna Fail TD in 1968
The funeral takes place later today of former Progressive Democrats leader Des O'Malley.
He died on Wednesday at the age of 82.
Adrian Kennedy reports...
"Mr. O'Malley started his political career as a Fianna Fail TD in a 1968 By-Election.
During different Dail terms in the 70's & 80's he served as Minister for Justice and Minister for Industry & Commerce.
He was eventually expelled from Fianna Fail in a row over a bill to liberalise contraceptives in the country.
He went on to form the Progressive Democrats with Mary Harney and Michael McDowell.
Des O'Malley's funeral takes place at noon in the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dublin, but with Covid restrictions, it will be a small family ceremony."
"For such a successful politician, he was remarkably reluctant to go canvassing with great fanfare"https://t.co/95EtL2f8Tp
