The sectors linked to the majority of the deaths are agriculture, forestry and fishing.

Figures from the Health and Safety Authority reveal there were a total of 53 workplace related deaths in 2020.

28 of those who lost their lives were self-employed, 12 were employees and 13 were non-workers.

The HSA says more people accessed the agency's free risk assessment tools at BeSmart.ie last year.

Chief Executive Dr Sharon McGuinness is encouraging more people, especially the self employed, to take advantage of the service:
