The Clare native served two years in charge of the Deise
Davy Fitzgerald has stepped down as manager of the Waterford senior hurlers.
The Clare native served two years in charge of the Deise in what was a second spell at the helm in the county, but they failed to progress from the group stage of the Munster senior hurling championship in the last two seasons.
Fitzgerald informed the county board of his decision, which is said to come as a surprise as he was expected to continue for at least another year.
Fitzgerald confirmed his departure to the Irish Examiner yesterday evening.
